I just finished reading the Running Man by Richard Bachman and enjoyed it. I first read it when the movie with the Governator came out as a lead into the movie. Needless to say it is a whole different story between the two, but thats ok.
I liked the movie a great deal, cool escapism that had some good boom for the buck. How can you not like the governator muscleing his way through some cool sci fi? and Richard Dawson as Killlian? excellent. Lots of fun.
But the book is so much better, and so much darker. Ben Richards is much more tragic and a much darker character. The Games Commission is much more evil, and that gives the book a better flavor. More the under-dog against big, greedy corporate america and how The Man is screwing the people. And this kind of story appealed to me. The re-read this time around was fun and got me to start reading the other Bachman books, which I have never read. One of his better stories, I liked it much more then some of the other stuff by King.
Yes I am a Stephen King fan, and I like his alter-ego too.
