The internet is a cool place, if you know where and when to surf. I started getting hooked on blogs, then Facebook, then Twitter over the past year. I have discovered some really cool places, peoples and events along the way. So, I have decided to do blog posts about some of the way cool places I surf into and really like. Places and events and people that just do it for me. This is one that does it for me.
I admit, I am a Twitter nut(you can follow me here @paddyfestus). Some of the folks I follow were following a fellow named Seth Harwood(@sethharwood) and re-tweeting some of his tweets. One of his tweets was a link to a blog post where in he was talking about this publishing experiment he was going to do. I was intrigued in a lot of ways, so clicked the link to his website. Okay, way cool, he writes crime stories, I can dig it. So I gotta check out the experiment.
You too can check out the experiment, here. The long and the short of it, my fellow wanderers, is an awesome experiment in publishing. The idea of taking a book, a collection of short stories in this case, and offering it for less then a buck is way cool. The idea, if I follow, is to take advantage in the huge boosts in Kindle sales and to make a 'rush' at getting the work out there for people to try. For less then a buck, why wouldn't folks give it a go? I did. I don't own a Kindle, yet, but you can do what I did and download the Kindle app for your pc, and get in on the eBook revolution.
So being curious, I down loaded the app and bought 'A Long Way from Disney' by Seth Harwood. I joined the experiment. For a buck, it is worth a go, I love short stories and I wanted to try it. Guess what? I loved the book. The short stories were excellent and so worth it. The experiment has worked very well so far as I can tell. Mr. Harwood has sold a bunch of books, and he got new folks to his author site and, I have no doubt, he has raised the sales of his other work. All by getting out there, trying something new and all for a buck. That just blows my mind.
I have been thinking long and hard about the other side of writing, the publishing side. I have scribbled for years and have off and on published in the small press. That has been fun, but I do want more. I am also just a wee bit independent minded. I read this experiment and joined and thought, wow! this is such a cool idea. This clicked for me, personally. I am still thinking, still trying out new stuff and wondering just what I am going to do, but this idea is worth looking into, no doubt.
You know, I have found some really cool stuff out there, just by taking a chance and by getting out there in the social network. Oh sure, there is some stuff that is just crap, but if you keep digging, keep looking, you will find some new stuff you'll like. Explore, wander around and see what you can see, it is worth the effort! If you like, you can check out the book here , spend a buck and see what you can see. You never know, you may find a cool new place to bookmark and stories you really like. I did.
Happy Wanderings!

Thanks for checking this out! Cheers!
