What a long week! I have to admit, most days I would scramble home and think, feed me, let me sleep. Not much else has wandered through my head. And frankly, this is a good thing.
The new job is a challenge. Lots of learning, intense training and plain ol' doing. There is a bit of pressure, one is expected to pass assessments and work really hard. The last test was not as difficult as I anticpated, but to pass, you needed to get 100%. No pressure, right? Good news I did that and we continue onward.
And I understand the requirements and the expectations, I knew all this going into it. The rewards are worth it, no doubt about it. So yeah, not real surprised by any of that.
I just had no idea how hard it is to be laid off for 8 months and then get back in to the swing of going to work every day. Simple things like time management, getting to places and doing things on a set schedule is something I think most people just take for granted as every day life, I did.
After getting out of the habit of getting up with an alarm and being on a schedule, these first two weeks have wiped me out. I had forgotten how that works. Kinda funny eh? After all, a year ago I was doing the old job five days a week, writing in NaNo and blogging everyday, and on occasion, scribbling in other projects and it was as easy as pie.
Not today, my fellow wanderers. This month NaNo is kaput and I can barely blog once a week, the energy is just not there. The desire is there, but the ability to juggle everything is not. I'll get back at it eventually, baby steps, baby steps.
The thing of it is, I am very excited and quite happy about it all. This opportunity just does not happen every day, not by a long shot. Sooo.. this is great. The ability to work at a great company with some pretty cool people, earn pretty good money and have all the benefits of a very good job is worth the time and effort it takes.
So the writing gig and all that has to go on hold. Been there, done that. This time I am much smarter and will get back into the flow quickly and with just as much gusto as I have enjoyed for the past year and a half. Just gonna take a couple months to learn, acclimate, and kick butt on the new job. Then I can start adding in the groovy gig and why then.. it will be Fiddler's Green.
Until next time.. Happy Wanderings.
